The gym locker room before the biggest game of the season was a zoo: sweaty bodies everywhere, towels whipping, the air electric with Axe, humidity, and that underlying nervous rot. Jake stood at his locker, jersey half on, hands so steady they might as well have been glued to the universe. Across the room, Carter made a show of towel-snapping Zach, but his eyes kept darting to Jake, like he was waiting for the main character to break the fourth wall and admit the whole script was about to go off the rails.
