The boys’ locker room stank of sweat, chlorine, and Axe, as if the vents were designed to trap the fumes until they curdled into something vaguely fungal. It was a Thursday, which meant sprints, burpees, and the whole basketball team staggering in like a zombie apocalypse with shin splints. Jake Riley had a towel slung low on his hips, the cotton already damp from his post-shower pass. He squinted through the glare of the buzzing fluorescents, eyes adjusting to the moving mass of naked or half-dressed bodies orbiting the benches.
