Jenny tried to move through the cafeteria like a ghost. She’d mastered a few tricks for not being noticed—never stop in a doorway, never turn your back on a group, and most importantly, never let your body move faster than your shadow. But she could feel every eye in the room clock her chest before registering her face, as if the news of her arrival had passed from mouth to ear in record time.
